The Thorns
The property was a large Residential Care Home with outdated heating and hot water systems. Supplying 20 vulnerable residents plus onsite staff accommodation, it was in desperate need of energy and efficiency upgrades.
We consulted with the staff, and the requirements were clear, we set to work. We wanted to provide a system which could supply the required and adaptable heating and hot water as well as deal effectively with many different requirements coming onto the system at the same time. The new system was to be placed into an existing historic building, so it required adaptations to be sympathetic to the building. An additional and vital challenge was to ensure the work was completed with the minimum disruption to the vulnerable residents, taking into account support and staffing needs.
We did this by providing a full in-house consultancy and bespoke design focussing on efficiency and individual care requirements. We costed full fuel-saving projections for a system in almost constant use, where reliability and consistency was of prime importance. The solution involved the fitting of a system including 2 x 80kw Vaillaint Eco-tec boilers to provide heating and hot water. Due to the care requirements, the project was completed within 3 weeks with full sympathetic understanding of specialised needs, and minimal disruption during the build.
Following the completion of the project, a service package was agreed, with bi-annual servicing. The project was completed September 2015, and contributed to achieving Heating Installer of the Year award, 2016: Northwest: Highly Commended.
